  Educational Choice

The Department of Education remains the largest expenditure in our state budget. Often times, it is the first department threatened by the current administration when forced to make decisions to balance our budget.

However, it has been proven that there is very little correlation between increased spending and improved student performance.  In fact, the District of Columbia is the best testimony of this fact as they spend more dollars per student and have some of the worst schools and student academic results in the country.

                   -        We must provide Maryland citizens a choice in educating their children.

                   -        Solutions should include vouchers for private schools, tax credits for parents

sending their children to private schools that live in failing school districts and

full support of charter schools, to name a few.

We must consider fostering partnerships with corporations and businesses to aid in the development of funding sources for primary and secondary educational institutions and providing tax credits for the efforts of businesses.
